Parents, if you haven't seen the movie, I encourage you to do so. We were all impacted in a powerful way yesterday afternoon. Please write a response to at least your child's reflection.
Olivia:
This movie has impacted me in so many ways. I felt bad for most of the characters. I wish everyone had the courage to do what Josh Wheaton did. It will effect me because now I know that if I defend God, I can share the gospel with others. I can stand up for Jesus as a 5th grader because if I hear someone say something bad about God, then I can help them understand the gospel. I can defend my faith and relationship with God by #1, helping spread the gospel and #2, I can stand up for Jesus when someone is saying rude things about Him.
Chase:
I can preach his name to people that do not know about it. It affected my relationsihp with God in that I need to stand up for him in any way I can and never be aggressive when I try and preach his name to people. It doesn't really have anything to do with me but there was this one time in my life that a kid said God is not real. I stood up for God but sadly the kid was never convinced but it was his choice not mine. In conclusion, I know God will test my faith but in my opinion I'm not ready for it.
Greg:
This movie has to do with me because it taught me to stand up for Jesus and God. It's like standing up for your best friend. This will impact my everyday life because if someone says God's name in a bad way, you can defend him. I can stand up for Jesus as a 5th grader by defending him by making him my savior. I can defend my faith and relationship with my savior by defending him, praying to him, reading his gospel and sacrificing everything to him.
Dylan:
I feel like it impacted me in my faith and be more faithful and help me understand what God wants me to do. I can stand up to people that use God's name in vain and tell them that it is wrong. I can tell people about him and let people know about Jesus. If someone is mocking God and saying he is dead, I can give reasons why he is alive and he has plans for that person mocking God. I can also tell him to tell others about God too.
Josh:
Now that I have watched that movie, I know more ways to stand up for my faith. The movie has impacted me so much in my faith. It is like I am a new person. I know more about lots of things I take for granted and I know I am so lucky to go to a school that gives me a wonderful education.
Beau:
This movie really impacted me. I feel now that I should spread the word of God to people who don't even know God. I could stand up for God by defending his word and to tell them about Jesus. I can defend my faith by truly believing in God and not believing in atheism. I should teach people about the word of God. If someone was saying bad stuff about God, I should stand up for God and teach him about Jesus. I wish everyone would believe in God.
Alexis:
Since I'm a real Christian, it is my job to stand up to God. Most people say they are Christians but when nobody is looking, they smoke, drink, take drugs and all sorts of bad stuff. But, even if I'm scared to, I should try to stand up for God. When I'm in college or high school, I might run into a teacher who is an atheist and will give me an F if I don't say God is Dead! I have to remember no matter what he/she will do to me, I have to stand up for my belief. If you take baseball or volleyball or even dance and someone on your team could be bad mouthing God or using His name in vain, you should go straight over there and tell them to stop making fun of God! This may not involve some of you but if you live in China or Malaysia, then it's illegal to believe in God or preach the gospel. The way you could stand up for your relationship is no matter if they kill, put you in jail, or beat you, you should keep on believing!!
MaKenzi:
The movie has to do with me because I can stand up for my beliefs and tell people about Jesus and who God is and what he can do for you and why you should believe in God as your Savior. The lessons I learned from the movie is I could bring anybody to God and bring them to be a strong faithful Christian. I could tell them that if you believe in God you could have the best life in heaven and live eternity there forever and ever. God will bless you. If you disown God, God will disown you. I can stand up for Jesus as a 5th grader to defend Jesus if people are saying God's not real or using his name in vain. I could go up and say I am a Christian and it's sinful to talk like that about God. God wants to be your friend. You just need to believe. I can defend my faith in God by acting like a Christian and when people are talking bad about God. I should say its not nice to talk like that about God. then I could tell them how Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that God sent his ONLY son down to die for us. Then I could tell them John 3:16.
Leah:
It has do with me because if my friend does no believe in Jesus I can tell them about him and if they ask question after question about him, I'll be ready to give an answer to all of their questions even if they just mock me. I'll get on my high horse and teach them about him. It impacts my everday life because I learned that I need to not let other people mock God and step up for him and be proud of my belief in him. I can stand up to Jesus like this, so there is a line of people making fun of him. I step up in front of the line and say that Jesus is the lord and savior and that they need to stop because you're just making fun of yourself because if you're saying that, everything he made is bad. Then you are really just saying that everyone and everything in the world is bad. I can defend my faith by saying that he is my lord and savior and that nothing you say can't make him not be. I can also say that they have their beliefs and I have mine.
Leighton:
This movie has taught me to stand up for what I believe in and to guide others to Jesus so they may live a happy life with him. When people are bullying, gossipping or making fun or saying bad words, I usually walk away and ignore them. But, I've realized I should put an end to it and stop the hate being shared. I will teach the gospel to friends or even family members who disrespect God, and my atttitgude will be positive and be an example of God to others. As a 5th grader, I can't convince an adult as an adult can, but I show God's love by being good to one another. If I am being bullied for my faith, I can either keep on being bullied or allow them so that I can tell them why I am letting them so they may know God. I want to teach people God's word to show them that they need God and without God, chances are they will ive an unhappy life. God isn't dead.
Isa:
Sometimes people will mock God. Sometimes people will ask you, "why do you believe in God?" And they expect you to have an answer. So what do you do about it? You want to stand up for God, but you don't know how. I think you should always have an answer or example to prove to people that GOD IS ALIVE. Christians will be persecuted, mostly in college. They'll take a class where their teacher is an atheist. They get called out and mocked for their faith in God. In the movie, God's Not Dead, Josh got picked on for having faith in God. He stood up for God. He gave examples and answers that support that God is alive. This can impact my life by showing I love God and by sharing the gospel with non-believers. I can stand up for God by telling people that I don't like them mocking God. I'll tell them I'm Christian. I can stand up for God by telling people the gospel. I can defend my faith and my relationship with God by explaining to people what He does and how much He loves us and cares for us. God's Not Dead!
Emily:
This movie has do with me because I am a Christian. I have once been teased by someone because of my faith. People in this movie suffered because they were Christians. This movie impacted me to stand strong and teach the Gospel to other people no matter what other people say, because God is always with me. I can stand up for Jesus by being a humble, loving, and caring Christian. I can defend my faith by standing strong and walking humbly with my Lord and Savior.👍😃😉😊💚
my dad posted a comment but we forgot to ublush it uhh oh
ReplyDeleteIt was great to read Alexis blog and hear her mature point of view on being not just a Christian but a believer. There is a difference. She accepted Christ on 9/25/12 and her relationship has gotten so much stronger with God. Her future is so bright. Mr. Watts
ReplyDeleteI liked Leah, Olivia, Josh, Beau, Makenzi, Leighton, Isa, (lets just say all of their) blog because theirs were very touching and showed how mature they are. It also shows that they love Jesus with all their mind, heart, and soul. That they are real Christians, not the kind of people who say they're Christians when behind people's backs they smoke, drink, and take drugs. From: Lexi :)
ReplyDeleteI liked everyones coment I can tell some people put a lot of work in it Josh
ReplyDeleteI loved the movie and was delighted to see such insight that has developed in these young kids' hearts :) Mrs. Nelson
ReplyDeleteI loved everyones Gods not dead reflection very touching.......
ReplyDeleteI am very proud of MaK in her reflection of the movie. I am expectionally proud of her that she is not only willing to stand up for her views, but most important her Savior. This has been an awesome class taught by an amazing teacher that truly has a desire for God. I am also very pleased to be included in so many things in this class. With the foundation that parents have laid and a teacher such as Mr Goh, our kids are on a very strong and straight path towards God! Mrs. Yamrose
ReplyDeleteI loved everyone's reflections! After reading each one I realized that we all wrote the same things, but each of them had something different and special about them. I am so glad I went to see the movie and I think you all agree with me! My sister and my dad also want to see it. I want to take them to see it, and I told them it is a AMAZING movie. I am sooooo glad Mrs. Glessner invited us to see the movie!
ReplyDelete(Dylan's mom) I loved seeing everyone's responses. I am very thankful that we were given the chance to see this movie. I think it helped bring awareness to us all that Christianity is not as tolerated as it once was. We need to stand up for we believe but more importantly we need to know why we believe what we do. I agree with MaKenzi that the verse she repeated stuck out to me too in the movie. Whoever disowns God on earth, God will disown him on heaven. I don't ever want to do that. Whatever man can do to us is fleeting (while it may seem to last for awhile) but whatever we do for God will last eternally. God's opinion should mean more to us then what anyone else thinks of us. An important lesson also from the movie that I hope everyone took away from it was that when you start dating, make sure you have the same goals!
ReplyDeleteDylan - I am proud of what you took away from the movie. Since you are playing for a baseball team that largely does not believe in God you have the perfect opportunity to be a witness to them and to stand up for God.
Chase, you are right about the kid you talked to. It was his choice to believe and you did what you could. Just like the movie, we all have choices to make and we are responsible for our choices, no one else's.
ReplyDeleteGreg, I liked how you said standing up for God is like standing up for your best friend. God should be our best friend.
ReplyDeleteReading Beau's reflection made me realize, even more, how blessed we are to have the choice to send our children to this school. I love that he is willing to stand up for his beliefs and that he chooses to educate others, sometimes even me.
ReplyDeleteBeau's Mom
I feel very blessed to have had the chance to watch this movie with my daughter and her classmates. Before I went to the movie I truly did not know anything about the movie, but it touched me in many ways. It demonstrated different ways that we can impact people around us every day, if we stand up for our faith in God. It also demonstrated, that people in our lives will sometimes try to convince us to do things we don't want to do or make choices we shouldn't have to make because they don't believe in God. It's ok for others to challenge or question their faith in God, that is how we sometimes learn more about Him. However, just like in the movie, many people are quick to say they don't believe in God before they truly understand His story. I LOVE how God shows up unexpectedly in our lives or reveals himself when we least expect it. It's not too late to accept Christ as your Savior, and once that happens, you will begin to see just how much he LOVES you each and every day.
ReplyDeleteIsa, I like how you said we should stand up for God and in colleges we will have to know how to stand up for God. College professors will try to mock us and I think they would in the public schools too if we went to public school.
ReplyDeleteBeau, I like how you said the movie impacted you. I like how you said you wished everyone believed in God.
ReplyDeleteI loved everyone's reflections. You guy did an amazing job on explaining how to stand up for God. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bella
DeleteSame here
DeleteI think Isabella's response and her classmates' responses were very good and that it proves that all of them are willing to stand up for God under any circumstance. I am so happy that we can send our children to this Christian school to learn about God.
ReplyDeleteIsa's mom and dad
Thank u Mr. Goh for sending these sweet comments and reminding me of God's love through their eyes and my sweet words.
ReplyDeleteAshley Heymans
Their' sweet words...., not mine; )
DeleteThank you 5th grade students and parents for blogging this weekend. What is going on here is real and goes so much further than the walls of a classroom. I know God has a special plan for each and every one of you. It has been a privilege to be your teacher this year! See you tomorrow!

DeleteI loved everyone's reflections. I felt like everyone had put their heart into those reflections. Everyone did a wonderful job and I feel like, including me, we all have grown close to God and that we have a different relationship with him than we had before. I loved how we all showed our spiritual side and really opened up our hearts.
ReplyDeleteI agree with lei lei. the reflections were wonderful! :)
DeleteMr. Goh, I sent you the email of my reflection on Saterday, wait, no it was Sunday

ReplyDeleteI was really glad that I was able to attend the movie with this group of kids, and the comments posted are really fun to read. I am so proud of these kids, and I am thankful that we live in a country where we have the ability to choose where and how our children are educated. I have a bachelor's degree in Religion, so I have studied many other world religions in addition to Christianity. I attended a secular university, and I am happy to report that none of my classrooms including my introductory philosophy class or my religion and philosophy class were like the classroom in the movie. I am thankful for people that have fought for our freedom in academia, such as Josh in the movie, so that we can have the freedom of speech, the freedom to have our own sets of belief systems, and a safe place to discuss, debate, and enrich our lives. In my classes I engaged with many different types of people. When it was appropriate I always shared about my personal relationship with Jesus Christ, even if others did not agree with me, I felt I represented God and Jesus well and because I wasn't arrogant about it, it was always a meaningful exchange. Sometimes it is the little ways we represent God that can make a big difference too! Whether in big or small ways, stand strong & tall in your love of God!
I wish I had understood at their age what these kids seem to be grasping. I feel certain that for the most part, the comments our students are making are comments they truly believe and not what we think they should say. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI was touched by all the heartwarming comments
