I guess I'm too good at hiding!

Hi 5th Grade,
I guess I'm too good at hiding.  I'll hide in a spot that is a little easier to find.  And, besides, it's a little lonely hiding all by myself.  I've decided that I am going to join your class.  Would that be ok?  You are the most amazing fifth graders ever!  I can't wait for Mr. Goh to pull my stick to be a classroom helper or to classify a Shurley sentence.

Nick Vujicic Video: Love WIthout Limits

Here is your HW.  Watch this video and leave a comment.  This is powerful stuff.  I think a lot of this relates to the social challenges you all face as students.  These are messages he is giving to Public Schools.  Therefore, there is little or no mention to the gospel.  But, don't be confused...what he is sharing is because Nick has the love of Jesus in his life.  I'll put another video on another day that shares his Christian testimony.

Part of Speech:  verb

Define:  Crazy game where men chase after a white little ball in a feeble attempt to put it into a small hole.

Use it in a sentence:  Golfing with Mr. Goh is super fun because I like to watch him get angry as he tries to put this little white ball into a hole.

2. Speech Recognition (5 quotations x 3 marks  =  15 marks total)

Speaker?  Who is being spoken to?  What is happening in the story when this is said?

"What do they teach kids in school these days?"

Who is being spoken to:  Susan, Peter

What is happening:  Peter and Susan are concerned about Lucy because she continues to insist that Narnia is real.  They go to the professor to talk to him about it.

5th Grade Auction Basket

Hi 5th Grade families,
A number of you have asked about our Auction Basket.
Below is a message from our 5th Grade Parent Rep.  Click on the link if you would like to sign up!  Thank you for your generous support of SRCS!

Seven Rivers 5th grade
Auction Basket
Hello, I'm Kim Yamrose, one of the mom's in the 5th grade and in charge of the auction basket for our room. We will be doing a gourmet kitchen item gift basket. I have priced each individual item and it works out to be between 18-22 dollars for each line. That is why you may see more than one item on a line. Amazon is a great resource for buying items if you need an idea of where to go.
After the items are given to Mr. Goh's class I will collect them and put a basket together for us........unless there is someone else who is blessed and talented in that area and would want to create it?
I hope ya'll will be as excited as I am in giving with a happy heart for the benefit of our school. Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

The government shutdown and the U.S. Debt

Hi 5th Grade,

I encourage you to have a good discussion with your parents tonight re: what we learned about the government shutdown.  The way our government spends money is a huge issue and one that needs to be addressed.

Below is a link to a realtime U.S. Debt calculator.  You will need to focus on your place values to understand the numbers.  Ask your parents what they think.  Have them comment on the blog too.
